The easiest way to accomplish what you want to do is to locate the person the motorcycle was last registered / titled to. My dad bought the bike from a guy who lives about 6 hours away from us, my dad doesn't have the guys phone number anymore, but if we can get a hold of this guy, and get him to email us a bill of sale, we could use that at the dmv to register it? can i transfer the title if i can get a hold of this guy and get him to make me a bill of sale? I don't even know this guys name, it's not like i can just forge one, but i know someone who works somewhere that can get me the guys personal info when i give him the plate # off the bike, hoping he still has the same phone number so i can get ahold of him. Update, just talked to a friend who recommended a bill of sale! What kind of options do i have for getting a pinkslip for this bike? Am I SOL? What course of action can I take to remedy this? I feel so bad about this, like without the title, we're not even going to be able to register that bike to ride it in California, so as soon as those tags expire, the bike will no longer be street legal. Good afternoon, So my father purchased a 2011 cbr1000rr repsol edititon motorcycle around a year ago for around $6,000.00 cash private sale, he apparently never transferred the title into his own name, and he now wanted me to register it to my name, sell the sport bike and buy us 2 dirtbikes with the money, so i went to pick up the title, he left it out in the garage for me as i had to stop by his house anyways, so i picked it up, stuck it in my back pocket, and within 30 minutes I LOST IT, it fell out of my pocket, i've traced my steps 3 times, theres no wind outside to blow it away, that pinkslip is GONE, lost as all get out! i called to ask him if he registered that bike in his name because i know you can file for a duplicate title if you lose a pinkslip that has your name on it, and he hasn't, i did notice that when i picked up the pink slip the part on the pinkslip that the buyer fills out and the seller mails into release the previous owners liability from the vehicle was still on the pink, so there isn't even that with the dmv to back up our claim of ownership.
